Hardstand Reinstatement Allenton School

Building Better Spaces for Learning and Play

Grant Hood Contracting was proud to be selected as the Main Civil Contractor for the reinstatement of the hardstand and playing courts at Allenton School — a project designed to enhance outdoor learning, play, and safe vehicle access for the school community.

This design and build project showcases our end-to-end capability — from site investigations and planning through to final construction and handover.

What the Project Involved

Full Court Design & Construction

Our team led the full design and construction of new hardstand court areas, including site survey, levelling, and integration with existing landscaping. Final finishes included high-quality surfacing and line-marking for school sports and recreation.

Heavy Vehicle Access Zones

We designed and constructed trafficable areas capable of supporting heavy vehicles such as fire trucks, the Life Education van, and school service vehicles — with careful attention to turning circles and long-term durability.

Underground Services Investigation & Coordination

  • As part of site preparation, we carried out detailed investigations to locate all underground services.
  • Stormwater systems were retained or adjusted to suit the new layout.
  • Redundant services — such as old cabling, sewer, and water lines from the former CEBUS block — were identified and either removed or decommissioned.

Stormwater & Surface Drainage

  • Effective drainage was a key deliverable. We designed and installed surface falls, catchment channels, and grates to tie into the school’s existing stormwater system, with the option to incorporate new soak pits where needed.

Collaborative Design Process

  • All designs were submitted for approval prior to construction. This ensured alignment with the school’s needs and compliance with regulatory and contractual requirements — all delivered without tags or exclusions.

Outcome

The project delivers a safe, functional, and low-maintenance outdoor space that supports both educational and emergency access needs. It also reflects Grant Hood Contracting’s commitment to quality workmanship, collaborative delivery, and long-term value for our education sector clients.
