Operations Coordinator
Location: Ashburton

We're looking for an organised and proactive Operations Coordinator / Dispatcher to coordinate the daily scheduling of crews, plant, equipment, and transport while supporting our clients and site teams. This is a fast-paced role where no two days are the same.
What You'll Do
- Coordinate daily dispatch and scheduling of personnel, plant, and equipment.
- Liaise with clients, supervisors, operators, and subcontractors.
- Prepare quotations for minor works and coordinate projects through to completion.
- Monitor job progress, resource utilisation, and project costs.
- Maintain accurate operational records and provide excellent customer service.

Diesel Mechanic

We're looking for a skilled and motivated Diesel Mechanic to join our team. This hands-on role is responsible for servicing, maintaining, and repairing our fleet of trucks, plant, and machinery to keep our operations running safely and efficiently. You'll work both in our workshop and on-site as required.
Key Responsibilities
- Service, maintain, and repair heavy trucks, plant, and machinery.
- Carry out preventative maintenance and diagnose mechanical faults.
- Ensure workshop equipment is maintained and operated safely.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and compliant workshop.
- Report equipment issues, breakdowns, and parts requirements.
- Support and mentor team members in safe machinery operation.
- Represent Grant Hood Contracting professionally and uphold our high standards.
What You'll Bring
- Trade qualification in Heavy Diesel, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience maintaining and repairing heavy vehicles and civil construction equipment.
- Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills.
- Excellent time management and attention to detail.
- A current NZ driver's licence.

Position Overview
We are currently seeking an experienced Excavator Operator to join our growing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating heavy equipment in a safe and efficient manner to support various earthmoving and construction projects. This role involves trenching, grading, digging, and site preparation while maintaining a strong commitment to safety and quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate excavators (and other equipment if required) safely and efficiently.
- Excavate, backfill, grade, and level earth for site prep, utilities, roadwork, and other scopes of work.
- Read and interpret site plans, setout with grade laser
- Perform daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance
- Work collaboratively with site supervisors, labourers, and other equipment operators
- Follow all company safety procedures and participate in daily toolbox talks
- Report any mechanical issues, site hazards, or near misses to supervisors immediately
- Maintain a clean and organized work area at all times
Qualifications & Skills
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience operating excavators in a construction or civil setting
- Valid New Zealand Drivers License, Class 4 would be an advantage.
- Knowledge of safe excavation practices and underground utility awareness
- Ability to work in various weather conditions and terrain
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Reliable transportation and willingness to travel to various job sites as needed
